Why Do We Always Fight About Money?

Two of the keys to financial success, especially in a couple's relationship, are knowledge and communication. This article focuses on the aspect of communication.

Tom Monson, the Vice President of Simple Joe, Inc. was giving a series of free seminars on personal finance to people in his neighborhood. Many couples were scheduled to attend but only two or three were showing up.

Tom and I discussed the situation and wondered why attendance was so low. We knew many people were interested and several had expressed a desire to learn more about finances directly to Tom. But when it came to showing up for the seminar they seemed to find other things to do.

As Tom and I were discussing this he commented on the behavior and attitude of some of the people who had shown up for the first two seminars. At the first seminar, Tom noticed that several of the husband & wife couples seemed a bit uncomfortable discussing financial matters with each other.

Much of Tom's seminar involved recognizing and evaluating your current financial situation, setting financial goals and ways to measure your progress. But he was having a hard time getting the couples to discuss financial matters between themselves.

We wondered if these couples may be hesitant to have a frank financial conversation because conversations about money can lead to disagreements and even fights. It has been estimated that over half of all divorces occur to some degree because of disagreements over money and finances.

So maybe these couples were hesitant to get into a public argument about their finances because they know that every time they talk about money they fight. Or they may just have had one or two really bad fights about finances and so now they try to avoid the subject.

I would venture to guess that all fights about money and finances can be boiled down to one of two root problems; lack of communication (or misunderstanding) and selfishness.

Lack of communication occurs when one spouse spends money the other had earmarked for something else. Or when an important financial decision occurs without input from the other spouse. Or when a large purchase is made without the consultation or consent of the other spouse.

Misunderstanding can occur when the couple is hesitant to enter into a financial discussion, has trouble communicating or just has trouble expressing financial ideas. It could be that one spouse does not fully understand a financial concept. Or one spouse is not being patient enough to have a full discussion of the subject.

The need to be right vs. wrong in making financial decisions is often very strong, especially in men. As the historical provider for the family, some men see finances as solely their domain. It can also be a sign of status or ego.

And in a situation where there are financial problems, many men can get defensive easily when the wife questions decisions or situations. This can lead to fights and misunderstandings.

After a discussion breaks down, the husband may feel like the wife is ungrateful for what he does and does not trust him to make correct financial decisions.

Meanwhile the wife may feel like the husband is talking down to her, does not value her contributions to the family and maybe is even hiding something from her.

This can happen when emotions get in the way of communication. It is very important to be considerate of your spouse and be careful how you phrase questions and comments.

Also it is important to ask questions when you don't know or understand a financial situation or decision. Lack of understanding will lead to future confrontations. The husband may assume that the wife knows the impact of the decision they just made. Then if something goes wrong the husband can get angered at his wife's questions because, to him, they could seem like an accusation.

Or the wife may do something that the husband does not fully understand and then the husband gets upset because "she did not tell" him what it is she was doing or why.

So how do we solve or avoid these problems of lack of communication and misunderstandings?

The first step is to leave your ego outside the door. You don't know everything and neither does your spouse. It is important to make sure that both people understand the financial topic, how it affects their lives and what type of decision is best for them and why.

If the wife is stronger in one area of finances, she needs to patiently explain to the husband what she knows and how it affects them. If the husband is more versed in a financial topic he should patiently explain to the wife what he knows.

If neither of them have a good grasp on the subject, "shut up" and go learn something more about it. Also don't be embarrassed or ashamed of not knowing something. Just because you are the "man" does not mean that you were born with financial genius.

Just because you are the "woman" does not make you an expert on household finances and it in no way means that you are "not capable" of understanding financial topics and concepts. Don't pigeon-hole your spouse or allow your spouse to gloss over something without an explanation that you both understand and could repeat to someone else.

We all make mistakes and we all have things to learn. Don't let your pride or your ego get in the way of your financial success. Don't let the subject of money become a sore spot in your relationship. If you can remember to talk with your spouse in the same kind of patient and respectful way you talk with your boss, your conversations about finances will go much smoother.

This will be advertising to your target audience and not to everyone. This is half the battle in internet marketing, too many people advertise to everyone and not there target audience. Now you know your target market, so you need to know where your prospects are. Find out where they are online and be there also. Do not openly market your products to them as this will only turn them off. Get to know your prospects, what they are looking for and what problems do they have. Since you know your product and the strengths ands weaknesses you can figure out how your product can provide a solution for them. This is something to incorporate into your marketing campaign.

You will also want to study your competition. Get to know the strengths and weaknesses of their product also. Once you know the weakness you can point that out in your marketing also. See who they are advertising to and how they are advertising. Are they doing something that you can incorporate into your advertising?

Once you have all the information of the the product, your target and your competition you can put together an effective marketing plan. Put it all together by appealing to your prospects, showing the strengths of your product over your competition and how your product help them solve there problems.

In order to succeed online there is one important thing that you must do and that is not quit. Success will not happen overnight. It will take time and research. If once approach does not work try something different. But the only way to fail is to quit.

So how do these little "magnets" or thoughts attract what we want or don't want in our lives you ask? There is an invisible universal mind if you will that contains all the dreams and thoughts of everyone who has ever lived or will live...past...present...future. This is quite the paradox you may think, how can this be?

The "time" element in this universal mind has been negated or altered. Quantum physics has recently shown us that a single electron can occupy two different spaces in an electro-magnetic field at the same exact point in time, once thought impossible. This goes against the laws of physics unless time has been negated or altered some how, the only possible explanation. So you may be able to connect with the dreams of someone who hasn't been born yet. Are you getting excited yet?

The Universal Mind is a sort of collective consciousness. The place where dreams are born. These dreams are invisible and waiting to take physical form.

How do you convert your dreams from the universal mind to the physical realm? By constantly thinking about your dreams with strong emotions and just as importantly - taking action! I am NOT talking about wishful thinking here...you must take action on your dreams!

It helps to have pictures of your dreams and look at them every day. Write your dreams down. Formulate a plan that is specific and with deadlines that will bring your dreams to fruition...and stay the course! “Don’t die with your dreams still inside you” as Dr. Wayne Dyer likes to say.

That is why I firmly believe you should pursue ventures you have a passion for...then you will find it easier to attach strong positive emotions to your thoughts and dreams.

Don't Waste Your Time - Use it Wisely.

Do you waste time? Are you lazy and indolent or are you continuously on the go, using every minute to the maximum?

If you are in the first category, there are a lot of very obvious things you can do to improve, but in this article I want to concentrate on those of us who are already using our time constructively and examine how you can squeeze even more from your day.

You may think that your life is so full that this is impossible, but I recently ran an inventory of how I used my time and realised that there was still some room for improvement. Here's what I discovered.

Timespace #1 – For years I avoided doing any kind of exercise. It was pretty easy for me, I had been skinny all my life and even though I wasn't too fit, I was still the right weight. As I got older, though I realised that I had to take my body a bit more seriously.

Since then I have become a moderate, regular exerciser; I now go running for half an hour every second day and visit the gym three times a week. No problem there; I get satisfaction from using my time well and I appreciate the results.

However, I calculated that I am spending about five hours per week doing great things for my body, but nothing for my mind. So now when I'm pounding the streets or straining at the weights, I use the opportunity to listen to self development programs on my I-Pod, to concentrate on goal visualization, to practice affirmations or just focus on being grateful for all the good things in my life. And there's a bonus too; because the blood is racing through my veins, my brain is more alert and better prepared to learn and grow.

Timespace #2 – I drive a lot. My business requires a good deal of travel and most of it is done in the car. I used to listen to music on the radio or go into an almost trance-like ‘auto pilot' mode, usually to escape the tedium of long distance driving.

Now, though, I put a self development CD in the player, or a language course, or again, I use the time to practice visualizations and affirmations. The privacy of your little tin box allows you to shout, sing, laugh or mumble. Who cares? You are on your own. It's your space.

Timespace #3 – Finally, this one is not so much about finding extra time as making better use of the time I thought I was using wisely. My personal time audit showed me that I was wasting a whole hour, sometimes more, at the beginning of the day catching up on the overnight e-mail load and then planning what I was going to do for the rest of the day.

I prided myself on being an efficient time warrior, but I now realise, that I was missing one of the biggest mistakes of all.

So how did I fix that? Simple. I changed two things. Firstly, I now do my planning, the night before, by taking ten minutes, near to the end of the evening and writing down everything I want to achieve the next day. The bonus here is that overnight, my mind works on the issues even while I sleep, so by the time I get started next day, I am far better prepared.

Secondly, I leave my e-mail inbox until lunchtime. I spend the morning getting through the goals I assigned the night before and then just before I take a break for lunch, I race through my inbox. That way, I find I already feel good about what I've done so far in the day, my mind is much more focused and I don't get distracted.

So no matter how efficient you think you are, take a look again at your day and I'll bet you can find some extra layers of time, you never knew you had. Good hunting.

Until you reach your goal in 3 YEARS. (Maybe less, Maybe More.)

We reap what we sow, but the harvest is never in the same season as the planting! Today you are planting...and will be at least for the next several months. Your harvest will come in time. Be persistent. Be patient. Think long term. Take action every day, (no matter how small) to build your business and you cannot fail.

How To Immediately Increase Your Adsense Clicks

It's laughingly simple, yet the effect can be immediate.

All you need is to get some colorful digital photographs, either from your own stock or from a royalty-free web site. Then using a graphics program, such, as Real Draw PRO or Photoshop, create a strip of four rectangular photographs with a space in between each. The overall size of the strip should be 728 pixels wide by about 108 pixels deep.

The content of the pictures should be relevant to the content of your web site. In order not to violate Google's Terms Of Service, you should avoid pictures that are animated, advertisements or induce the visitor to click on the AdSense ads. If you are in any doubt, take a look at the ads on my web site or check with Google's Terms Of Service.

The background color should exactly match the color of your AdSense pages. It helps if you can place a narrow blue border around the individual photo (but not around the entire strip). This arrangement is ideal for a page containing an article and the best position within the page for the picture strip is at the top of the page, immediately below the page headline, but above the start of the body text.

Once you have done this, go to your Google AdSense advert codes and select the one for leaderboard, which is 728 pixels wide by 90 pixels deep. If the 728 pixel width sounds vaguely familiar, it's the exact size of the width of your picture strip. Make sure you delete Google's border code before pasting your leaderboard code under the picture strip, save the page and load it to your server and start enjoying up to three times the clicks on that style of ad.

If you already have the maximum number of three AdSense blocks on the pages, where you insert this picture strip/leaderboard combo, do be sure to delete one of the existing ad groups, so you don't violate Google's Terms Of Service, which only allow three ad blocks per page.
